Eat your food as your medicine. Otherwise you have to eat medicine as your food.

It might suprise you how powerful foods can be for the healing process.  For centuries people have been using different plants, herbs, and roots to support healing.  Many have powerful antimicrobial and antiviral properties that can help prevent infections, illness and even reduce inflammation.

TURMERIC

Turmeric has been used in Ayurveda as way to create balance in the body and support digestion.  Recent studies have also shown it’s significant abilities to reduce inflammation.  Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin, which has shown to reduce oxidative stress.  It is also known for it’s anticancer properties.

GARLIC

Garlic is extremely powerful. Unlike conventional antiobiotics, garlic may have the ability to fight different virus strians, which means it can give you broader protection.  Chinese medicine and Ayurveda consider garlic a power treatment for colds, flus, chest infestions and digestive disorders.  Here are some other incredible benefits to raw garlic:

  • Antibacterial
  • Antifungal
  • Antiviral
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Lower cholesterol
  • Reduce cardiovascular disease
  • Antitumor

Allicin which is found in garlic loses it’s potency when heated, so if you are using garlic for medicinal properties then you will want to eat it raw.  Some of my facorite ways to eat raw garlic are in salad dressing, brusheta, or drizzled over cauliflower pizza after its been cooked.

LEMON

Lemon is commomly used in herbal medicine because of it’s powerful antibacterial and astringent properties.  It contains high levels of antioxdants, vitamin c, and flavonoids which provide immunity against colds, flus, and many other bacterial or viral infections.

Incorporating lemon into your everyday routine can be easier than you might think.  Squeezing 1/2 lemon into your water in the morning helps balance your PH and cleanse your body.  If you don’t have a lemon on hand you could use 2 drops of doterra lemon essential oil.  I personally like to use lemon in all of my home cleaning products, because of it’s antibacterial properties.  If you want to learn more about how I make my own All Purpose Cleaner check out this post.
